Although this year's first paintings were subtly influenced by his recordings of Cape Verdean seascapes, which served as a background for the narratives created in the studio, they were cut up and recombined into new compositions. In this process, references to Art History and the concepts of surviving images and pathosformel began to emerge, stemming from his readings of Aby Arburg and George Didi-Huberman. In these reinterpretations and appropriations, the paintings and the space where he was painting began to take on a scenic atmosphere, which interested him increasingly and which he expanded in his following works.
