For this inaugural exhibition, the space was described as follows:
‘Bueiro is an atelier, a place of work and discussion. Bueiro is not a gallery, a workshop or a collective, but the result of three people meeting in one space, of the conflict between egos, wills and disagreements.
However, it is not in this space or in these egos that the project ends. It is only the preface to a relationship that is built between peers, valuing the individual and collective concerns of those who gradually come together. The work produced does not arise from a joint conception, but from thinking together. It is from antagonisms and complicities that the uniqueness of each person emerges, aware of a ‘good’ selfishness that is based on the knowledge, or recognition, that it is in dependence that particularity is built.
Thus, O Bueiro is aproject of a mouldable and imprecise nature, which is defined according to the impositions and urgencies of those who make it. It is these emergences that give shape to the exhibition “Desculpa, Mãe” ('Sorry, Mum’), which brings together some of the work produced in this context over the last year. It is from the gathering of each person's images that the project first materialises.
Apart from this, O Bueiro is an atelier.’

Studio
2021
It was at number 275 Rua Alvares Cabral in the city of Porto that Abel Mota co-founded O Bueiro with Afonso Rocha and Diogo Nogueira. However, before it had a name, it had already begun to be occupied in September of the previous year. It wasn't until the beginning of 2021 that the idea of a studio began to take shape. In these months, new works emerged, to which those produced in Amares were added. Throughout that year, the idea arose to present the space to the city with an inaugural exhibition that would take place in November of the same year. To this end, with the sponsorship of various organisations, they began a series of renovations to the space while new images were being created.
