“Abel Mota's artistic practice is hedonistic by nature. The pleasure of playing with elements of painting, such as colour or composition, resonates in his works, particularly the most recent ones, which can be classified as landscapes. The broad, spontaneous and virtuoso gesture or the vivid colour palette are a constant presence in these works, many of which are done en plein air. This way of making is also synonymous with the idea off ruition, the idea of pleasure, inextricably linked to Abel Mota's modus faciendi.

At this Biennale, the artist, who has a degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (in conjunction with the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris), brings us a series of works in which the question of landscape is central.

Firstly, large-scale landscapes from Minho, the result of his most recent artistic activity, but also landscapes from Maia, produced specifically for the BACM.”
